Sodium formate

White crystalline powder with mild odor.

Sodium formate is a white crystalline powder. It is soluble in water. Melting point is around 253°C. It can be used as reducing agent, deicing agent, in leather, textiles, paper, and as corrosion inhibitor.

Energy Sector

Sodium formate finds application energy sector as a drilling fluid additive for high-temperature and high-pressure drilling operations. It stabilizes shale formations, reduces wellbore instability, and improves drilling efficiency. It serves as a fluid loss control additive, minimizing fluid loss and enhancing wellbore integrity. Sodium formate is also used as a completion fluid in well workovers, providing a stable, low-density fluid that minimizes formation damage and facilitates wellbore cleanup.

Water Treatment

Sodium formate is used as a reducing agent, oxygen scavenger, and corrosion inhibitor. It is added to boiler water and cooling water systems to remove dissolved oxygen, preventing corrosion of metal surfaces. Sodium formate effectively reduces oxygen levels in water, minimizing the risk of oxygen-induced corrosion in pipes, boilers, and other water-handling equipment. It also functions as a corrosion inhibitor, protecting metal components from rust and corrosion.

Food

Sodium formate is widely used in the food industry as a preservative and anti-microbial agent to extend the shelf life of food products. Its ability to inhibit the growth of microorganisms helps prevent spoilage and maintain food quality. Sodium formate also acts as a pH regulator, buffering agent, and flavor enhancer in various food applications. It is utilized in the production of processed foods, sauces, dressings, canned goods, and bakery products.
